Technical lecture
10 October 2017 18:30 - 19:30
This event has finished

This address will have the new Railway Division Chair Richard McClean (Managing Director, Grand Central Rail) consider the appropriate role of engineering and engineers in contributing to the future railway industry in a complex and changing world.
In doing so, he will consider what the broader economy and society appears to require of the rail sector and what rail can realistically offer back so as to remain relevant to politicians, funders, suppliers, end users and staff. The address will highlight what the rail industry needs to do to become more attractive as a career choice for new generations of potential engineers and what the Railway Division should focus on to support this.
The address will be preceded by the "Case Study" session in room E0.34 at 16:30 with short presentations on railway engineering topics with a local connection.  Currently two presentations are planned:

1) Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park Line extension - overview of how Building Information Modelling is used in design and development.

2)  Skipton East Lancashire Rail Action Partnership - and overview of the plan to re-open the Skipton - Colne rail link.
