About CCFE

The Culham Center for Fusion Energy is the UKs national laboratory for fusion research. It is owned and operated by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). The UK Fusion program is centred on the MAST (Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak) – the UK’s fusion energy experiment. Here, testing can be done on International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor physics in new regimes, which may eventually be suitable to be used for the basis for a power station.

CCFE also hosts the world’s largest magnetic fusion experiment, JET (Joint European Tours). The JET facilities are collectively used by European fusion scientists. Designed to study fusion in conditions approaching those needed for a power plant, it is the only device currently operating that can use the deuterium-tritium fuel mix that will be used for commercial fusion power.

A visitors information poster has been included (see below), providing general visit information for the tour. Please make sure to read it before registering.
