Friday Five: Milton Caruthers

Milton Caruthers - Principal Mechanical Engineer

Hatch Associates

1. What do you do in a nutshell? Manage the engineering on mining and mineral processing projects.

2. What inspired you to become an engineer? My father as he was a bit of an inventor. Also, his time in the Air Force influenced my entry into aeronautical engineering.

3. How do engineers change the world? By improving the infrastructure of our physical world through the application and implementation of engineering laws and processes.

4. What do you wish you would have known as a graduate? If you knew these things then the challenge of finding out is lost…part of your engineering journey is to know what you don’t know.

5. What is your favourite engineering innovation? Probably the aviation industry “black box”, because it has directly enhanced aircraft safety and will save lives. The world would not be the same without safe aircraft transport.
