Welcome to the Iberia Group

There is a newly-formed group comprising of Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar, running regular activities throughout these countries. 

The group supports any member who is living and/or working anywhere in Iberia and is always happy to hear from potential new members and anyone with an interest in the Institution and engineering in Iberia and worldwide.

Objectives

  1. To undertake such activities incidental to the achievement of the objects and purposes for which the Institution is constituted as may be considered suitable by the Council of the Institution
  2. To promote technical and professional development of members of the Institution residing in, or visiting, Iberia, through meetings and other forms of communication, by encouraging members to prepare or discuss papers, through the study of local mechanical engineering practice, and through close coordination with the Institution’s Headquarters
  3. To achieve closer personal acquaintance and spirit of cooperation amongst Institution members in Iberia
  4. To provide a local point of contact with indigenous engineering societies on all matters of mutual professional and technical concern
  5. To assist officers from the Institution headquarters in their contacts with European institutions and other engineering bodies located in Iberia
  6. To actively seek to promote the status of engineering within Iberia and the wider European community

    AIC Automotive Intelligence Center - Amorebieta-Etxano
    The Automotive Intelligence Center (AIC) celebrates on the 7th of May its "Open Day" for children, students and young people up to 99+ years old. The IMechE Iberia Group will take part in this initiative with a Stand and with a STEM Activity: The Kilimanjaro Chair Gymkhana. Children of age from 5 to 99+ years old will take part in teams in a competition, using the Kilimanjaro Chair in various trials to experience the challenges that our team will have to overcome in their African adventure.

    College of Architects of Madrid - Madrid
    The Society of Women Engineers will host their 2nd WE Europe Annual Conference, WE Europe: Reach Out to Reach Up. Modeled after the annual conference held in the USA each year that attracts over 8,000 women, this annual European conference will feature presenters from a variety of countries with the goal of providing women engineers in Europe, Middle East & Africa regions content tailored to their needs.

    This event is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the IMechE Iberia Group. The agenda is still being drafted (will be published in the following weeks), but the key targets of the meeting are: - Review of activities 2015-2016 - Election of the new Committee for 2016-2017. - Overview of key 2015-2016 activities as the Kilimanjaro Challenge or the development of a Interviewers and Panel network in Iberia region.

    Kilimanjaro
    The Kilimanjaro Challenge is a project led by the Institution’s Iberia Group volunteers to design and build a human-powered wheelchair that will help a disabled athlete to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - almost 6,000 meters above sea level.
