Description

The Germany Group of the IMechE is looking at establishing a mentoring scheme in Germany, in which young engineers keen to receive mentoring for the purposes of achieving professional registration can be paired with more experienced engineers who are willing to act as mentors.

As a first step towards this objective, I am pleased to announce that a Mentor Training event will take place on Friday 20th October at the Van Der Valk Hotel Berlin Brandenburg, Eschenweg 18, D-15827 Dahlewitz (see https://berlin.vandervalk.de/en ) from 10:00 to 12:00.

The purpose of the Mentor Training is to provide support to Professionally Registered Engineers for the role of mentor to Developing/Graduate Engineers. The training will be provided by IMechE Global Account Manager, Jade Abbott.

The short course will describe the procedure for offering mentor support to candidates registered on both the IMechE Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) and for those who are not. The reasons why candidates are assigned with mentors will be examined as well as the importance of the ‘Mentor’ role, with focus being given to the skills and experience a mentor should have. Jade will also give an overview of online reporting and career development tools which are part of the IMechE MPDS.

If you would consider volunteering to be a mentor and would like to participate in the Mentor Training event, please register your interest by return of email to germanychair@imechenearyou.org before Thursday 12th October.
