This event has finished

To Members and Associates of the IMechE In Scandinavia;

This is your invitation our second technical visit to be held on Friday 28th April starting at 14.15 at Bekkelaget Vann in Oslo.    There will be a social afterwards at the “Mekansik Verksted” downtown Oslo, with drinks and snacks.   You are all most welcome to attend and also get a chance to meet the Committee who hold a meeting earlier in the day.

The Bekkelaget wastewater treatment plants is Norway's second largest treatment plant and is built inside caverns below the Ekeberg mountain alongside the fjord.  The original wastewater treatment plant was built in 1963, and was later expanded and rebuilt several times. In 2001, a new and modern facility was built to handle new and stricter requirements.

Points of interest:

  • This the facility is processing 3400 litres of liquids per second
  • It produces biogas as a by-product, which is used to power over 80 of Oslo’s busses
  • Discharged water to the fjord, meets the highest quality standards rated suitable for swimming
  • The maintenance system uses musical sounds in the caves to indicate plant condition.
