We are based in Derby, which has within our catchment area possibly the largest number of railway engineers of any of the centres.
We put on a wide ranging and interesting annual programme including a regular Young Members’ presentation evening and a 2-yearly Colloquium.
The emphasis is of course on railways and a summary of our recent programme for 2010/11 can be viewed via the link on the left.
We undertake occasional technical visits to places of interest and sometimes hold joint meetings with the Derby Railway Engineering Society, a long established professional society for local railway engineers.
We have also sought to improve our links with the other engineering institutions to increase the breadth of issues we cover, incorporating the mechanical with the electrical and the civil aspects of an integrated railway system. We hope that these links will continue to bolster our programme and will support our members’ professional development.
Our meetings usually commence at 17.00 for 17.45 and are preceded by tea, coffee and light refreshments. The meetings are free of charge and open to members and non-members.
Our regular venue for 2011/12 will be
The Roundhouse
Roundhouse Road
Pride Park
Derby DE24 8JE
(Road access end of Roundhouse Road)
And we will also hold the occasional meeting at:
The Derby Conference Centre
(formerly the BR School of Transport)
London Road
Derby, DE24 8UX
Also at
Burton College
Lichfield Street
Burton on Trent
Staffordshire
DE14 3RL
Formal posters advertising forthcoming meetings are circulated to the majority of railway-associated companies and individuals within the area prior to the date giving a summary of the lecture and the specific location.
If you (or your company) would like to be added to this circulation list please get in touch with our secretary on rdmidlands@imeche.org
