Description

Great FenThe Great Fen Project is seeking to create 3700 hectares of wetland habitat between Huntingdon and
Peterborough.  The project is focused upon two existing National Nature Reserves, Holme Fen and
Woodwalton Fen.  Connecting these two nature reserves will create habitats and provide new opportunities for recreation, education Great Fen and business.  Creation of habitat within the Great Fen is challenging given the nature of the existing extensively drained agricultural land as well as the demand
for and supply of water for the long term sustainablility of the project.

Since 2006, Atkins has been working alongside the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology to consider the challenges presented by the catchment hydrology and investigate the engineering requirements necessary in delivering successful water management for the Great Fen vision.  There is also ongoing
investigation into improved Flood Risk Management for the wider Middle Level Catchment drainage
system using the Great Fen project.
