Annual Dinner 2015

The 2015 Annual Dinner was held on Friday 6th November at the Derbyshire County Cricket Club, attended by 212 people. The guest speaker was Ian Robertson, the BBC international rugby correspondant.

Thanks to everyone who attended for making the event a success, and for raising money for MacMillan Cancer Research.

Apprentice of the Year award 2015

To enter the Bryan Hildrew Apprentice of the Year Award, an apprentice has to be enrolled on an advanced or modern engineering apprenticeship. Entrants must also be a current EngTech Affiliate member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

The winner will receive an educational grant of £1500 to support their career development and will be invited to receive their award at the Institution’s Vision Awards, held in London in September.

The winner and highly commended entrants will also be asked to feature in promotional material for future awards. This might be in the form of a case study, photos taken at the awards or website articles.

An entry form should be completed by the apprentice or sponsor. This comprises a short description in no more than 500 words, as to why the entrant should win the Award.

Further details and the application form can be found here.

Meet the President 2015

This event is scheduled to happen on February 5th. Kevin Long from Derby and Nottingham Young Members' Panel is coordinating. The event is an opportunity for young members to meet the President and discuss any burning issues related to the Institution and the engineering profession in general.

Committee meeting and Christmas Dinner, December 2014

Among other things, we discussed our website update and our use of social media to communicate with members and promote upcoming events.

Annual Awards Ceremony 2014

The Awards Ceremony was a highly successful evening at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, with approximately 50 people receiving awards for achieving the status of Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or Engineering Technician. We plan to hold the event at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club again next year, and are currently negotiating dates.

Presidential Visit 2014

The IMechE President Mark Hunt enjoyed a very successful Presidential Visit to our region, with good links created with East Midlands Airport and Formula E.

Annual Dinner 2014

This was another successful event. The guest speaker was very well received, and we had good feedback on the night. We succeeded in raising more money for Macmillan this year than last. The organising committee will have a ‘wash-up’ meeting prior to or just post Christmas to start planning for 2015.
