Welcome to the Norfolk & Waveney Area

Engineering plays a major role in our ever more technological and environmentally concerned society and through a lecture programme we aim to cover a wide range of subjects relevant to East Anglia; and the Norfolk & Waveney Area in particular. Our lectures are aimed at an audience with a general interest in engineering technology and its application to local industry and commerce. They are relatively short and encourage a Q & A session at the end.

We particularly welcome young people starting out on an engineering career, and those in schools and colleges considering further education in engineering.  Likewise, we invite tutors, careers advisors, parents and others involved with young people to our meetings, or to talk to us for advice.  If we don't have the answer directly, we can refer you to someone who does.

We invite IMechE members to be pro-active with the Area committee.  We are always looking for ideas and speakers for lectures, visits to industry; and not least new committee members to bring new ideas to further the course of our Institution in the Norfolk & Waveney Area.

Our normal annual programme comprises technical meetings in the months of March, April, October and November, and a member's lunch in January; all usually in the Norwich area. Please click on the Events link to obtain an up-to-date listing of what's on in our Area.  All events listed are open to non-members and all except social events are free. To ensure adequate seating is available we appreciate advance notice should more than two people from any group or organisation wish to attend.

To further the course of engineering in society, members are encouraged to disseminate information on local IMechE events to employers, colleagues, colleges, senior schools and others with an interest in technical and engineering matters.

Each technical event listing includes a poster which may be downloaded for display at the workplace.

We endeavour to maintain links with other engineering institutions and societies which sponsor lectures and events in our Area. See 'Useful links'.
