Automobile Division Eastern Centre (formerly Luton AD)

The AD Eastern Centre (AD East) was formerly the Luton Centre.We organise a variety of events held mainly at
  • Cranfield University (Whittle Building, Gold Lecture Theatre) in Bedfordshire and
  • The University of Hertfordshire (Lindop Building) in Hatfield.
We welcome offers to host events at other sites - often related to the topic. Recent sites have included
  • Millbrook Proving Ground,
  • Nissan Technology Centre - Europe (Cranfield),
  • The Works -Aston Martin Lagonda (Newport Pagnell),
  • The Forest Centre (Marston Moretaine, Beds) and
  • The Off-Road-Dynamic Facility at the Centre for Automotive Technology (Cranfield University).

    The presentation will cover major design characteristics of the Ultraboost project engine, the test results and the project findings. Approximately 35% reduction in simulated fuel consumption was shown when comparing the 2010 V8-engined Range Rover with a 2013 version with an Ultraboost engine. The present limit to downsizing is discussed, and the next steps for this technology is raised.

    Starting in early 2015 the Transport System Catapult will test 2 seater autonomous pods in an "urban laboratory" using a pavement route agreed with their partners at Milton Keynes Council.
