“RedR UK is an international charity that provides training and support to humanitarian workers across the globe. RedR delivers practical, life-saving skills which enable communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and conflict.

In 2016/17, the charity trained nearly 7,500 aid workers in 55 countries in a range of technical skills – such as groundwater development, shelter, and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) in emergencies – and soft skills, including project management, people management, and safety and security.

RedR works in partnership with NGOs, governments and academic institutions to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian action and to build the technical capacity of the sector. The charity also works closely with support from the private sector to continue to deliver and develop its work.

In particular, RedR has a strong affinity with the engineering sector as it was founded by an engineer (Peter Guthrie) in 1980, as the Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief. The charity has many values in common with the sector: the search for sustainable and ethical solutions; a commitment to innovation; a belief in the need to share and build skills (technical and otherwise), particularly in parts of the world that are prone to disaster.

This is a black tie event and booking is mandatory. You may either book via the web site button above using your credit card or by cheque (IMechE Eastern Region) to Gavin Sadler. Tickets are £50 and guests are very welcome.
