Description

The London Array was commenced in 2001 following a series of environmental studies which confirmed that the Thames estuary was a suitable site for a wind farm.  Planning consent was granted in 2006 for a 1 GW offshore wind farm.  The first foundations of 177 turbine columns was installed in 2011 and the final turbine was installed in December 2012.  The wind farm will generate 630 MW of electricity, enough power for almost half a million UK homes a year – two thirds of the homes in Kent.

Mr Daws will describe the London Array, some of the engineering aspects to construct and commission the wind farm, the operational management for variable weather conditions and maintenance.

Mr Graham Daws, Production Manager, The London Array Ltd, Ramsgate.
