This event has finished

The Annual General Meeting of the Cambridgeshire area of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will be held on Monday 16th July 2018 at 18:15 at the Institute for Manufacturing, Alan Reece Building, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, CB3 0FS.

After the AGM, there will be a short break, followed at 19:00 by a talk by Colin Brown and discussion on the future of the IMechE, with respect to the IET and its peers, in the light of the report "UK Engineering 2016" by Professor John Uff.

Dr Colin Brown speaking

Dr Colin Brown has just been appointed interim CEO of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.  He runs his own company in Cambridge, Five Tribes Ltd. Whilst at the Institution he has been involved in many inter-Institution initiatives, particularly with the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Specifically he was personally involved with projects which arose from the pan-Institution collaborative response to the Uff report from Easter 2017.

A Fellow of the Institution, Colin has a degree and PhD from Cambridge University and has worked in both large and small engineering organisations around the world. His research and publications at the start of his career were on fatigue crack growth, but latterly he has been more involved with engineering management and the role of engineering in society. His contribution during his 13 years at the Institution was to contribute to a significant increase in its public relations and public affairs profile. He has appeared regularly on television and radio to comment on behalf of the Institution’s membership on topical issues.

The talk is free to attend, open to the public and is suitable for students and engineers. All welcome. You are encouraged to pass on this invitation and bring with you colleagues, friends and family who are interested in the future of the engineering institutions.

Date: Monday 16 July 2018

Time: Refreshments served from 18:00. AGM starts 18:15. Talk starts 19:00. Ends following discussion by 20:30.

Venue: Institute for Manufacturing, Alan Reece Building, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge CB3 0FS (West Cambridge Site, directions).

Parking: Please use Car Park 8. The access code is: 6644. Car park 8 is located at the far western end of Charles Babbage Road, on the same side of the road as the IfM and is the last car park on this side, beyond the Materials Science and Metallurgy Building (see map). (Please note the code will not work on any other car park, and although the barrier will be raised early evening it will go down again later, so if people park there and the barrier goes down, they will have to call security to exit the car park.). If you have a disability that makes walking difficult, you may park in an available parking place in the access road beside the IfM.

This event is organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Cambridgeshire area.
