Aspiring engineer? Have an interest in engineering? Involved in engineering? Engineers use their technical abilities to create, implement and solve on a daily basis, however for an engineer to perform these actions effectively they must have an ability to communicate effectively. Engineers - Stand up, Speak up is an opportunity to test your presentation skills against other budding engineers. Give a five to ten-minute presentation on an engineering project that you have been involved in either at work or university for the chance to gain experience, build your CV and more importantly WIN PRIZES!


The event will consist of two sessions for presentations separated with a short break for refreshments. Competitors will be present during fellow competitor’s presentations. See below for the event itinerary.

10 Competitors will progress from an initial review of the competitor's presentation that must be submitted to the committee prior to the event. See the ’To compete’ section for more details.


5 – 10-minute presentation.

Props are welcome providing they do not present any health and safety risks, and the competitor can arrange transport. Please advise of any props you intend to bring during the registration stage.

Prizes:   Gold - £50 Amazon voucher

                     Silver - £30 Amazon voucher

              Bronze - £20 Amazon voucher

To Compete

1. Register for the event on the IMechE near you site.

2. Email your presentation to before 01/06/17 . With the subject, Engineers Stand up Speak up presentation followed by your name. Please include details of props intended for presentations.

3. Wait to see if you have been selected to present at the event.


  • Monday 22nd May - Register and submit presentation
  • Thursday 1st June – Notification of competitor progress

Important Notes:

  • Please ensure that the content delivered has been deemed acceptable to view by your employer.
  • Ensure that any confidential materials such as those that require security clearance have passed declassification before submitting.
  • All participants will receive an email by Thursday 1st June regarding progression to the next stage of the competition.


The judging panel will consist of 4 members of the Greater London North West area committee. Panel to be confirmed.
