The event will commence with welcome and greetings from the site, followed by several speeches setting the context of Engineering Heritage Awards, the de Havilland Aircraft Museum and the particular merits of the de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito Prototype W4050. The plaque unveiling will take place followed by a speech by the local IMechE representative and closing comments from the site representative. 

Networking time will end the event. There will be ample time for networking following the presentation: the Museum is open to the public until 17.00 and members are free to look around the historic collection of de Havilland aircraft (including two other Mosquitos, a Comet 1 fuselage, Sea Vixen, Vampires, Tiger Moth and BAE146) plus engines, missiles and many other exhibits. Refreshments are available for purchase in the Museum’s Aeroshop.

Keynote Speaker and IMechE Senior Representative (Name): Charles Clarke, Managing Director of Those Engineers Ltd.

Graduating from the UMIST mechanical engineering within Rolls-Royce University Apprentice scheme, Charles’ career has included working for Westland Helicopters, the Engineering Sciences Data Unit (ESDU), Seasim Controls and Those Engineers Ltd.

As MD of Those Engineers Ltd he oversees a broad range of design-and-build projects for a range of clients including multinational research organisations, private inventors, educational and other public bodies. 

From 2001 to date, Charles has been a member of a team supporting the handling of energy data for the Confederation of Paper Industries relating to Climate Change Agreements, the EU ETS and energy efficiency.

Charles is a Chartered Engineer and member of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He also serves as the Royal Aeronautical Society’s General Aviation Group Liaison officer with the Greater London Region panel of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and contributes to the committee activities of both Institutions. He is a STEM Ambassador and Microlight Aircraft enthusiast.

Alan Brackley CEng., CMarEng, MIMarEngS&T, AMIMechE 

Alan’s aviation interested started when he joined an ATC Squadron when he was 14. He served an Engineering Apprentice with Handley Page Ltd Radlett, from 1966 until the company closed in 1970, and completed his Apprenticeship at Crosfield Business Machines in Watford. Following this he worked for 32 years in London as a shore based Superintendent Engineer / Fleet Manager with two shipping companies, managing mainly oil and chemical tankers ranging from 30,000 to 250,000 tons. He retired in March 2008.

Alan joined the Mosquito Aircraft Museum (now the de Havilland Aircraft Museum) in 1979, working on two of the Museum’s Mosquito aircraft. He has served as a Trustee and Director since 1996, and was elected Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Trustees in January 2012.
