Welcome to the North Wales Area

The North Wales Area Panel was established in 2005 to better serve the members in the North Wales Area by organising appropriate local events.

As the current Chairman of the NW Panel I am committed to encouraging an awareness of Engineering to young people in the area. Having being brought up in North Wales I am aware that Engineering and Technology has not always been given the status it deserves when promoting career opportunities. Future proposed developments in the region, particularly within the power sector, will provide new unique opportunities for our young people. It is vital that we promote technology in all disciplines and guide them towards the necessary skills and qualifications required to produce the engineers of the future.

Within the last 12 months we have established a North Wales Engineering and Science Group in conjunction with other professional institutions in the area. The aim is to focus on certain key events where we have common goals and can share our resources. The first of such events was our recent participation in the National Eisteddfod at Wrexham. We ran a Joint stand in the Science and Technology Pavilion with interactive games and a daily Engineering challenge for young people. This was the first time IMechE and most of the other Institutions had participated in the event which proved to be an undoubted success based on the numbers visiting the stand and the positive feedback received.

Our own IMechE programme for the next 12 months kicks off in September with a visit to RAF Valley on Anglesey. The visit will allow participants to appreciate the technical changes associated with the introduction of the latest Hawk trainer.  Please keep a close eye on the Near You web site and the Regional newsletter for details of this and other interesting events to come.

The NWA committee is made up of several hard working and focused volunteers who care about Engineering and wish to share their enthusiasm with others. We are always open to new members to help arrange events and engagement with the public.  We currently meet once a month, alternating venues between St Asaph and Wrexham. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the committee members if you want to join us.

Amdanom

Sefydlwyd Pwyllgor Adran Gogledd Cymru yn 2005 i wella’r gwasanaeth i aelodau yn Ogledd Cymru ac i drefnu digwyddiadau perthnasol lleol.

Fel Cadeirydd Pwyllgor yr Adran mae gennyf ymrwymiad i hyrwyddo ymwybodaeth o Beirianneg i bobl ifanc yr ardal. Fel un sydd wedi ei fagu yn Ogledd Cymru ‘rwyf yn wybodol nad yw Peirianneg wedi cael y statws haeddiannol pob amser pan mae dewisiadau gyrfaol yn cael eu ysturio. Mae’r datblygiadau mawr sydd ar y gorwel yn yr ardal, yn enwedig yn y diwydiant trydan, yn mynd i gynnig cyfleon arbennig i’n pobl ifanc.  Mae yn hanfodol ein bod yn hyrwyddo tecnoleg mewn pob disgybliaeth ac yn dangos y ffordd at y sgiliau a’r cymwhysterau a fydd angen i greu Peiriannwyr y dyfodol.

O fewn y 12 mis diwethaf sefydlwyd y Grwp Perianneg a Gwyddoniaeth Gogledd Cymru ar y cyd gyda’r sefydliadau proffesiynol eraill yn yr ardal. Y pwrpas yw canol bwyntio ar ddigwyddiadau allweddol lle mae gennym amcanion tebyg ac yn gallu rhannu ein adnoddau. Y digwyddiad cyntaf i ni fynychu ar y cyd oedd yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn Wrecsam yn ddiweddar. Roedd gennym stondin yn y Pafiliwn Gwyddoniaeth a Thecnoleg gyda gemau rhwngweithiol a sialens dyddiol i bobl ifanc. Dyma’r tro cyntaf i’r IMechE, a nifer o’r sefydliadau eraill, gymeryd rhan yn yr achlysur a fuodd yn lwyddiant ysgubol gan ystyried y nifer o ymwelwyr i’r stondin a’r ymateb bositif a dderbyniwyd.

Mae rhaglen IMechE am y 12 mis nesa yn cychwyn yn mis Medi gyda ymweliad a gorsaf RAF Valley ar Ynys Mon. Bydd yr ymweliad yn rhoi cyfle i’r ymwelwyr werthfawrogi y newidiadau tecnegol gyda cyflwyno yr Hawk newydd fel awyren hyfforddi yn yr orsaf. Cadwch lygad barcud ar Gwefan Near You a cylch lythyr y Rhanbarth er mwyn gael mwy o fanylion am hwn a digwyddiadau diddorol eraill sydd i ddod.

Mae Pwyllgor yr Adran yn cynnwys nifer o wirfoddolwyr gweithgar gyda ymrwymiad i Beirianneg ac eisiau rhannu eu brwdfrydedd gyda eraill. Rydym yn agored o hyd i groesawu aelodau newydd er mwyn rhoi cymorth gyda trefnu digwyddiadau a chyswllt gyda’r cyhoedd. Yn arferol rydym yn cyfarfod unwaith y mis gan newid y man cyfarfod rhwng Llanelwy a Wrecsam, pob yn ail.  Os oes gennych ddiddordeb mewn ymuno a ni cysylltwch gyda fi neu rhywun arall o aelodau’r pwyllgor.
