Engineering Megastructures - Part of the Wirral Arts Festival

As part of the Wirral Arts Festival (previously the Heswall Arts Festival), IMechE Merseyside and North Wales Region, will be hosting 'The Art of Engineering' Day.  The event will have an Engineering Megastructures theme, with four, hour long sessions taking place through the day.  Members and guests are invited to attend any or all of the session which are open to anyone interested in engineering and not just our members

Sessions will run through the day follows:

10.00 - 11.00 - tbc

11.30 - 12.30 - Micro Reactors - Downsizing Megastructures
Johh Eldridge, Principle Engineer, Cammell Lairds, will talk about micro power reactors and his thoughts on how they could be manufactured offsite for rapid installation in remote communities.

13.30 - 14.30 - The SKA Project - Building the Worlds Largest Radio Telescope
Prof Benjamin Stappers, Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, will give an insight into this project to build the worlds largest radio telescope which will eventually have over a square kilometre of collecting area.

15.00 - 16.00 - Megastructures Out at Sea
Henry Dixon, Chairman, North Wales Tidal Energy and Costal Protection Project Ltd, will talk about his company's aim to become a significant generator of tidal renewable energy in Wales by building a tidal impoundment off the North Wales Coast.
Members and guests are invited to attend any or all of the sessions during the day and to just sign in on arrival.
