6th Form students across North Wales work with local companies and organisations on real life projects to include research, design and manufacture of a solution to a particular engineering problem. The Big Bang event is the culmination of this work when the teams are assessed and awards given out for a number of aspects of the work including team working, innovation, environmental considerations as well as our own 'best use of mechanical engineering principles'

  • Project assessors will be required to work as a team judging the projects. Standards are usually very high. A copy of the project reports will be made available before the event for consideration.
  • In addition, we require two assessors to judge our own IMechE award which is given for the ‘best use of mechanical engineering principles’
  • We will also have a IMechE stand at the event requiring a couple of volunteers to engage with interested groups with some interactive activities and inspiring the next generation. This year we have a Mindstorm Rubic cube solver to demonstrate.

Many of our members have taken part in these events over recent years and found it to be a fulfilling experience enthusing the next generation of engineers.

Members interested in volunteering for any of these activities should register on the NearYou website or contact me directly on:
