Description

Dr Jamie Pringle, Senior Lecturer in Geosciences at Keele University, will give a talk on the geoscience aspects of mining in WW1, focusing on the Western Front. This will give a general background of the varied geology, give brief accounts of the Royal Engineers work on surface constructions, potable water and then progress to the specialised Mining Companies set up by Norton-Griffiths and the challenges they faced.
