    Britain’s railways are the busiest they have ever been, with record investment by the government to maintain the existing railway it’s harder than ever before to keep up with soaring demand. HS2 aims to help meet this need, however for such a large project, its important that we learn from the experiences of other major rail projects in the UK. This talk aims to help unravel these experiences, and see how HS2 could benefit.

    The first half of this presentation describes Dr Carol Marsh’s career in engineering over the last 30 years, including how she became an engineer, her work in different industries, the advantages and disadvantages of working in a large international company compared to an SME . The second half introduces the Woman’s Engineering Society (WES), its aims, objectives and current projects to inspire women to reach their full potential in engineering.
