On Thursday 26th March 2009 the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Wolverhampton Young Members panel received a presentation from Rupert Paul and Ian Calvert. Rupert is a free-lance motorcycle journalist writing for the motorcycle magazine “Superbike” at the time of the lecture. It was in his initial article shown in the January issue of the magazine that the idea for the event was conceived. Rupert was aided by his “partner in crime” Ian Calvert,

This event is joint with Staffordshire and Shropshire Young Members and is a national IMechE sponsored competition open to Young Members and Chartered members of less than 10 years standing. Entrants have to give a 20 minute illustrated talk on an engineering topic. The talks are assessed 90% on the presentation, rather than the topic, and will be judged on the night by a panel of local members,with a cash prize of £200 for the winner. There will be four talks.
