Description

To coincide with the Great Exhibition of the North 2018, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, The Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, The Institution of Chemical Engineers and Engineering UK (‘Tomorrows Engineers’)  are working with other partners to present the Great Northern Engineering Experience at Neville Hall, the historic headquarters of the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers in the centre of Newcastle.

The Great Northern Engineering Experience will be an opportunity for the general public, but particularly parents and their children, to learn about the modern engineering industry that exists in the North of England in 2018, the economic and social benefits it brings and the job and career opportunities it offers. The Experience will be available from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs throughout the period of the Great Exhibition, from June 22nd to September 9th 2018

The Experience will utilise the facilities of Neville Hall, including its historic library and lecture theatre, to present to the public:

  • A series of talks and lectures about various exciting aspects of engineering in 2018
  • A series of exhibitions by northern engineering companies showcasing what they do, their technologies and the career opportunities they offer the people of the region.
  • An opportunity to find out about careers in engineering and the route to being successful in them.

Neville Hall is situated on the ‘Innovation Route’ walking trail of the Great Exhibition and will be accessible, at no cost, to Great Exhibition visitors.

The Great Northern Engineering Experience will celebrate how the inventive and radical spirit of the past lives on today and shapes the way we will all live tomorrow.  Engineering sits at the very heart of that vision, shaping who we are, where we live, what we eat, what we wear, how we are entertained, how long we live, how we travel and how we can exist sustainably. It will point, particularly young, people to the amazing career opportunities that exist in engineering today and help local engineering companies to close the massive skills gap that prevents them from delivering their full potential.

The 'Experience' is open to the general public and is free to attend.
