The Great Northern Engineering Experience is an exhibition and series of lectures, sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, The Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Engineering Technology as part of the Great Exhibition of the North. It is designed to raise the profile of North East engineering amongst the general public, parents and their children. It runs from late June to September 9th 2018 and is open from 10:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Sunday each week.

This lecture is one of a series of Tuesday night lectures on engineering related topics of general interest and will be held in the historic lecture theatre of the Mining Institute

Michael Taylor MBE will give an extensively illustrated talk taking a look at the various bridge crossing points of the river Tyne in Newcastle and Gateshead. Each bridge will be considered in its historical context, highlighting the personalities involved

Michael Taylor MBE is a Chartered Civil Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and is a member of their Panel for Historical Engineering Works. He is a member of the Robert Stephenson Trust and a qualified Newcastle City guide.
