Welcome to Aerospace North West

The Aerospace Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers set up IMechE Aerospace North West in 2004, as part of the IMechE's Aerospace Division, to cater for the needs of members in the region and recognise the special place of the aerospace industry in the North West economy.

The Committee organise between 8 and 10 events a year and hold a prestige event every other year. The Committee also help organise The Annual Northern Aerospace Forum which has been run successfully now since 2006 with considerable Industry attendance.

The Institution strives to bring a programme of interesting, relevant and good quality lectures and industry events to the North West to provide members with continuing professional development opportunities, in addition to excellent industry networking.

Chairperson Vacancy

Are You Interested In Developing Yourself Further? Do You Want to Lead a Panel of Willing IMechE Members to deliver Activities in the NW England?

Due to changes in circumstances, there are some opportunities arising to join the Committee of the Aerospace North West Centre of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. In particular, the position of Chairperson is becoming available and we are looking for a dynamic, interested person who would like to lead the Centre for the next 2 years.

The role of Chairperson consists of leading a committed panel of local interested members to achieve the aims of the IMechE Aerospace Division. That is to support Membership needs in providing Learned Society lectures, help to continue the good work in fostering interested young people into Aerospace (including at schools), and to help direct the Aerospace Division to take the IMechE forwards into where the Membership sees the future.

This role will allow the successful candidates to join the Aerospace Division Board and input into the activities and delivery of the Aerospace items within the IMechE. The role of Chairperson also brings together the inputs into the other arms of the IMechE, ensuring that the membership gets good value for money through delivery of local lectures and tours of an Aerospace nature. In leading the Committee, there is much scope to consider new ways of providing value to the membership, and satisfying the local demand for Aerospace activities.

The role does require availability to attend Committee meetings, usually based in Chorley, and held on a Monday evening for 2-3 hours once every six weeks. There will be also a requirement to attend the Divisional meetings, which has traditionally been done by the Chairperson, but through use of the other committee members could be shared. This is up to 6 meetings per year, usually in London at IMechE HQ.

Anyone interested should please contact the current temporary Chairperson, Ivan Dean.
