This presentation will include why energy storage is required, detailing currently available and developing ideas on both electric and gas storage. It will then give a discussion on gas storage in the UK, moving on to Cheshire’s role in UK storage. An overview of typical plant equipment will be given, with a more detailed look at compressor and driver options. Possible future developments such as CAES (Compressed Air Energy Storage) and Hydrogen storage in salt deposits will also be discussed.


Michael Rimmer is a machinery engineer in Costain Natural Resources consultancy group. He has 10 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry matching user, machinery and system requirements to minimise capital expenditure and environmental impact.
