BIM, or Building Information Modelling and Data Management in the nuclear industry has moved significantly to align with the government initiative of a ‘Digital Built Britain’ through the creation of a ‘Digital Community’ embracing Engineering, Construction and Operations, promising greater efficiencies and leaner operations throughout the life of an asset encompassing the design, construction, testing and commissioning on to its operational life and eventual decommission. Very much dependent on strong project initiation and the alignment of business case, a common data environment and an integrated PMO it is being championed by government and industry alike as having the backbone to support all future construction projects. It has moved, in a few short years, from the margins into the mainstream of the UK construction industry.
