Technical Lecture
10 December 2013 18:00 - 20:00
This event has finished

This event is hosted by the IMechE Railway division but is being shared with the IMechE North West Power Industry Division.

Designed by Thomas Telford, the Canal Line started as a canal intended to link Glasgow with Ardrossan. Converted from canal to railway in 1885, it closed in 1983 but reopened as a branch in 1990. In December 2012 electric trains operated on the line for the first time following an accelerated construction programme of just four months, delivered under a novel alliance between Network Rail and ScotRail. The project and some of the technical challenges will be described in this talk.
