Welcome to the Scottish Region


This is site used to provide you with information about the events organised throughout the Region by our enthusiastic committees in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Thurso.

Where possible, we try to align our events with the IMechE’s five key themes of Energy, Environment, Transport, Manufacturing and Education. Please have a look at your Area pages to find out what’s planned locally. If there is a topic you are particularly interested in which is not covered, please let us know and we will endeavour to include it in our future programme of events. Also, if you have facilities which may be used as a venue for an event or suitable subject matter, please get in touch. We also arrange and participate in briefings at Holyrood throughout the year.

If you have a little time to spare and are interested in joining the Committees, please also get in touch. We need enthusiastic volunteers. It can be very interesting work, good for developing your skills and also provides some great networking opportunities.

We now have over 10,000 members in the Region. Each committee promotes their local events to the membership of that area using the IMechE’s list server. Please make sure that you keep your contact details up to date!

    Careers Hive is an education event by Edinburgh International Science Festival, which gives 11-14 year olds an immersive introduction to the future of work. It highlights the breadth of opportunities available if they continue to engage with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) throughout their education.

    If you have been an Associate Member for over 4 years, you should now have enough work experience to meet the competence requirements for gaining professional registration. This is a 20 minute, 1-2-1 consultation to explain the requirements.

    Aberdeen Science Centre - Aberdeen
    'NASA in Aberdeen' project that SPE Aberdeen are involved in along with EI and SUT. There are various activities planned during this project - public lecture, primary and secondary school engagements and family activity weekend. I have attached more details to this message. We are looking for volunteers to help with some of these activities, in particular the primary school engagement and family activity weekend, and I thought it might be of interest to you.
