Presentation title: Introduction to metallurgy in upstream oil and gas

Target audience: Students and recently-qualified engineers with an interest in the metals and alloys used in the upstream oil and gas industry.

Presentation purpose:

To improve engineers’ knowledge of commonly-used metals and alloys, their properties and potential deficiencies and to briefly raise awareness of the related welding, non-destructive testing and corrosion aspects.

Presenter profile:

Rob Howard is a Materials Engineer with over 20 years experience at Lloyd's Register in corrosion management and materials engineering. He graduated with a PhD in Materials Engineering in 1995, and after a post-doctoral corrosion research position at the University of Manchester, joined LR Integrity as a Corrosion Engineer. He moved to the Materials and NDT team in 2008, where his work involves metallurgy and welding engineering reviews for clients, along with technical support and occasional training to colleagues across Lloyd’s Register.
