2018 / 2019 PROGRAMME

We hope you will find our 2018/19 programme to be varied,  topical and relevant. This year's theme is the integrated railway – covering the ORR, Scottish infrastructure projects, railway gauging and freight, as well as more rolling stock focused events about the Class 385 and HSTs. It’s a great time to be part of the Railway in Scotland with so much happening and the programme reflects these exciting times.

As always, our newly elected Railway Division Chair Andrew Mellors will give his address at the beginning of the programme – more details to follow. Andy is no stranger to Scotland, having served as ScotRail Engineering Director and Deputy Managing Director. It will be great to see Andy return, and see what he makes to the changes that have come in.

For the Integrated Railway theme, we have secured some of the big names in the industry to present in Glasgow: Network Rail’s new CEO Andrews Haines; and Ian Prosser, ORR’s Chief Inspector of Railway Safety.

Rolling stock, modern and re-invented, features in our other events. Starting with the brand-new class 385 EMUs. Their introduction to Scotland will be the subject of the talk by Hitachi. This is followed later in the year by HST’s at Technical Visit to Haymarket – were we see where changes to depot infrastructure and rolling stock come together.

If you have a technical interest in railways, do come to one of our events.  New members are especially welcome. We encourage active participation and would be glad to hear your ideas, particularly for next season’s events.  The wine and nibbles we serve after our events provide an excellent opportunity to chat informally to presenters and network with colleagues from a wide range of engineering companies.

Please feel free to contact the Centre for example, with ideas for future events or if you wish to be on our email distribution list. Email us at rdscotland@imechenetwork.org
