2017 / 2018 PROGRAMME

We hope you will find our 2017/18 programme to be varied,  topical and relevant. Richard McClean’s presentation certainly will be. As newly elected Railway Division Chair, will give his address on how engineers can contribute to the future railway industry in a complex and changing world

We are certain that the industry will continue to change in a demanding financial environment and so are arranging to have a senior industry figure explain current  developments in March.

Rolling stock, old and modern, features in our other events. Starting with the old, we are pleased to have a presentation from John Cameron on his experience of owning two LNER steam locomotives. In contrast the brand-new class 385 EMUs will be the subject of the talk by Hitachi’s Paul Newlove on how the introduction of these trains.

The extent of the work associated with new and improved train projects is not always obvious. Iain Rae of SNC Lavalin will enlighten us with his presentation on how his company supports this work. Also supporting ScotRail is the host for our events, Glasgow Caledonian University whose Dr Babakali Alkali will explain how the reliability of class 158 doors was improved.

If you have a technical interest in railways, do come to one of our events. New members are particularly welcome. We encourage active participation and would be glad to hear your ideas. The wine and nibbles we serve after our events provide an excellent opportunity to chat informally to presenters and network with colleagues from a wide range of engineering companies.

Please feel free to contact the Centre for example, with ideas for future events or if you wish to be added to our email distribution list. Email us at rdscotland@imechenetwork.org
