Welcome to the Scottish Region

 

This is site used to provide you with information about the events organised throughout the Region by our enthusiastic committees in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Thurso.

Where possible, we try to align our events with the IMechE’s five key themes of Energy, Environment, Transport, Manufacturing and Education. Please have a look at your Area pages to find out what’s planned locally. If there is a topic you are particularly interested in which is not covered, please let us know and we will endeavour to include it in our future programme of events. Also, if you have facilities which may be used as a venue for an event or suitable subject matter, please get in touch. We also arrange and participate in briefings at Holyrood throughout the year.

If you have a little time to spare and are interested in joining the Committees, please also get in touch. We need enthusiastic volunteers. It can be very interesting work, good for developing your skills and also provides some great networking opportunities.

We now have over 10,000 members in the Region. Each committee promotes their local events to the membership of that area using the IMechE’s list server. Please make sure that you keep your contact details up to date!

    This site visit will include a presentation highlighting some of the significant challenges associated with the design and build of such a major scheme and how these have been overcome. There will also be an opportunity to view drone footage of the demolition and construction of some of the structures on site.

    Fantastic opportunity to tour an extensive, modern and well-equipped engineering facility. The visit will involve a presentation on Whittaker's capabilities, focusing on FPSO Turret Systems, a tour of the notable machine and fabrication workshops, and will finish with some delicious, locally prepared food and an opportunity to ask questions & network. Ideal opportunity for all to gain further insight and understanding of the industry. Families/students/children welcome!

    This event will present Ardent’s novel system of the retrieval of large sub-structures, such as jackets between 3.5 and 35kte, without usage of heavy lift assets. The presentation will highlight the iterative multi-discipline design and evaluation process that led to a FEED study output combining mechanical, control and instrumentation, structural and naval architecture. The risk and opportunities, the peer and independent reviews and lessons learned will be summarised.
