    High frequency vibration, caused by the high frequency acoustic energy generated by a pressure let down device, often referred to as acoustically induced vibration (AIV) or acoustic fatigue is a potential threat to relief and blowdown systems. This lecture will give the background to AIV, examples of problems experienced, and methods available for determining risk. What constitutes good design and potential remedial measures will be discussed. A summary will be given of ongoing research.
