Technical visit
23 February 2019 14:00 - 16:00
This event has finished

A chance discovery by railway enthusiasts in 1986 of a locomotive boiler being used to supply heat in a woodworking factory in Maldon, Essex, has culminated in the final stages of building a complete working steam engine at the Bluebell Railway.

An account of the engineering difficulties encountered will be outlined, together with the latest project status on what will be a £1million locomotive.  New technology being used to enhance and facilitate the construction of a once extinct LB&SCR Class H2 ‘Atlantic, No 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ will be described as well as the ongoing work needed to complete the project.

The talk will take place within the workshop and delegates will be able to view the now substantially complete locomotive at close-quarters.

There are 20 places. Sold on a first come, first served basis, booking through the website.

As there will be a tour of the locomotive workshop please wear sensible shoes.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served prior to the tour.

Free parking is available.

The Tour is FREE and open to the general public, but there is a Bluebell Railway site entry charge of £4 per person payable on the day. Prior registration is required.
