The Crossrail Project: Design, Planning and Construction
11 March 2013 17:15 - 19:30
This event has finished
Crossrail is a new railway which is being built under London. It will connect Heathrow Airport and Maidenhead in the west to Canary Warf, Abbey Wood and Shenfield in the east. It is the biggest engineering project in Europe. Work is progressing to create 21km of new twin-bore tunnels, 8 new sub-surface stations, and a new fleet of electric trains. This lecture will describe key aspects of the project design and planning, provide an update on construction progress and explain how engineering solutions have been developed to cope with the challenges presented by delivering such a complex project in the heart of a congested city.

Free pizzas, beer and other drinks will be available immediately after the lecture, so that informal discussions of railway engineering career opportunities can take place with Chris Dulake and with other railway industry employers.
