Bluebird K7: A technical appraisal of the record breaking unlimited hydroplane **POSTPONED**

Dr Carl Gilkeson will present the findings of a team of Year 4 MEng aerospace engineering students looking at Bluebird K7. The team, which was supervised by Bill Smith and himself, created a CAD model of K7 from copies of the original Norris Bros blueprints. Using the model, they ran a number of CFD simulations which allowed them to study the static and dynamic stability.

They further investigated the duck-strike damage which adversely affected the handling of K7 on its final fateful run. Additionally, they gained very interesting insights into the ‘as then leading-edge technology’ and its operation, which included replicating the pitch-up moment which sadly ended in Donald Campbell’s accident.
