Sir Eric Mensforth lecture: "From ancient origins to the world's most advanced turbine blade casting foundry"

Speaker - Steve Irwin, Associate Fellow in Casting Processes, Rolls-Royce

This event has been organised by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Sheffield Branch.

An invitation has been extended to IMechE members & guests to attend their inaugural Sir Eric Mensforth lecture at Sheffield Hallam University.
Steve Irwin will briefly trace the 6000 year history of the investment casting process, from its ancient origins to its modern day application in the casting of complex gas turbine blades. The latest trends in civil engine architecture are reviewed and covers the establishment of the world's most advanced investment casting foundry (Rolls-Royce's Advanced Blade Casting Facility in Rotherham) and explores the future of investment casting and the competitive threat posed by breakthrough technologies.
