RAE and the Development of Free-Fall Nuclear Weapons

The talk will concentrate on the WE177 nuclear weapon, supplemented by films of trials. RAE was deeply involved with the design and development testing of practically all the non-nuclear components, fuzing and arming, the safe carriage and release, and life extensions.

The Fukushima Nuclear Incident: Causes and Consequences

The talk will describe the boiling water reactor design employed at Fukushima, and then discuss the nuclear incident at the Fukushima Daiichi site. The design and operational failures that influenced the severity of the event will be outlined and the consequences of the event will be analysed.
