This presentation summarises Nissan's development of an all electrically powered, family sized, passenger car. Topics such as the key motivators to develop this vehicle, the establishment of the strategic partnerships to create the necessary infrastructures, and the technological developments to introduce the Leaf will be presented. The factors that lead to the Nissan Leaf being awarded the European Car of the Year Award in 2011 will also be explained.

Recognising the interest and concerns that have been developing in various parts of the world and within IMO, considerable research into the effects of radiated underwater noise emissions from merchant ships on marine mammals and fish has been undertaken. Given this developing background, the lecture discusses some of the findings of this research in relation to the physiology of marine mammals in the context of ships’ far field noise emissions.
