Ken Durbin, the ODA Delivery Partner’s Technical Director, is coming to talk about how this project has been realised and the challenges of maximising sustainability throughout the design and build.

Since the start of construction three years ago, the largest construction site in Europe is now well under way. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Park has been cleaned up, more than 20 new bridges erected, tens of miles of new utilities laid, new roads built, and seven new sporting venues are actively under construction. The project remains on time and on budget.

On Thursday 26th March 2009 the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Wolverhampton Young Members panel received a presentation from Rupert Paul and Ian Calvert. Rupert is a free-lance motorcycle journalist writing for the motorcycle magazine “Superbike” at the time of the lecture. Nuclear Fusion offers the possibility of almost limitless power that is safe, economic, reliable and virtually emission-free. While research into magnetic confinement has been well publicised, the alternative of laser-induced fusion is little known, but is on-going in Britain and elsewhere.
