Following the 2015 Paris Agreement, with over 180 countries accepting to take initiative to reduce the carbon footprint, the world focus is shifting towards clean energy resources. The renewable energy sources (RES) are thus expected to grow continuously in the smart grid framework. Besides, widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) would significantly help to achieve the clean energy objective. This seminar will present the challenges and opportunities in these two overlapping areas. In the first part of the seminar, grid integration challenges for the renewable energy resources will be discussed, which will cover the energy management issue, utilization of energy storage device, microgrid. The second part of the seminar will focus on the challenges for large scale EV grid integration, which would require comprehensive planning of the charging infrastructure, to mitigate any demand–supply mismatch. Charging demand of the EVs is also influenced by several factors, such as driver behavior, location of charging stations, electricity pricing, etc., which will be presented alongside case-studies.
