Development in India

The Institution has a long standing membership in India with strong links to large engineering firms such as Tata Motors, Cummins, Jaguar Landrover and JCB who have significant operations in the country.

A skilled engineering workforce here has meant significant growth in engineering opportunities. The Institution understands the need that employers have to develop their working engineers, and the engineering profession. It achieves this largely by supporting them through professional registration which has strong significance for the engineering community in India.

As part of the Institution’s aim of raising the profile of professional standards in this significant emerging market, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Prabal Sarma as the new Consulting Director for the region.

Prabal will endeavour to develop and maintain key industry relationships in India in order to grow the local membership. He will also provide support and guidance to the Branch Committee Chair while supporting professional development activities.

The Institution CEO, Stephen Tetlow, explains:  “Prabal’s main role will be to engage with the Indian engineering community to raise the profile of engineering and support the professional development of mechanical engineers. This is an exciting step forward for the Institution and recognition of our aims for India and wider international membership growth.”

While based in Mumbai, Prabal will be travelling across India and focusing on core engineering locations including Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
