  Independently Powered Electric Multiple-Unit (IPEMU) project is a battery
 -powered train that entered trial passenger service in Essex\, in January 
 2015. The train ran between Harwich International Station and Manningtree 
 Station for a period of five weeks. The prototype rail project was UK's fi
 rst modern battery-powered train and was established to demonstrate the po
 tential of a battery / electric hybrid EMU in passenger service.\nThe trai
 n was operated by Abellio Greater Anglia\, with the project being a partne
 rship between the infrastructure manager Network Rail\, the Department for
  Transport\, rolling stock manufacturer Bombardier\, train operator Abelli
 o Greater Anglia and railway innovation body FutureRailway. \nJames Ambros
 e managed the project for Network Rail and explains the trials and the les
