 ace Centre Prize 2016\n\n\nPrize competition deadline is 9th March 2015.&n
 bsp\; Note the presentation evening date and time are to be decided.\n\nTh
 e purpose of\nthe prize is to encourage the further professional developme
 nt of young\nengineers living and working in the West of England and South
  Wales\,\nfollowing graduation with a first\ndegree.\n\nThe format of the\
 ncompetition is designed to test the entrant&rsquo\;s communication skills
  when\ndelivering technical information on their subject and the potential
 \nbenefit to the business / aviation\nindustry\, to a technical audience.\
 n\nA\n750 word abstract\, summarising the author&rsquo\;s work on an&nbsp\
 ; aerospace\nrelated research or development industrial project\, must be 
 submitted to\nthe Western Aerospace Centre no later than 9th March 2016. T
 he\ncompetition is open to self-employed individuals\, as well as those\ne
 mployed by or studying with engineering organisations. Qualifying\nentries
  on any aviation related topic will be accepted. The detailed\nrules are p
 resented below.\n\nThe selected finalists will be invited to\ngive a 20 mi
 nute presentation at the Presentation Evening scheduled for\nApril 2016 at
  the University of Bristol\, in front of a panel including\nengineering di
 rectors from the region&rsquo\;s leading Aerospace organisations.\n\nSubje
 ct\nto confirmation\, the four finalists may have a full day with the Red\
 nArrows. The overall winner will receive a &pound\;500 first\nprize\, runn
 er up cash prizes will also be awarded.\n\nThis is a chance to represent y
 our company or organisation\, to\ngain exposure to senior aerospace repres
 entatives from industry\nand academia\, and for employers to encourage pro
 fessional\ndevelopment amongst their engineers.\n\n\nCOMPETITION RULES\n1.
 \nThe competition is open to practising graduate engineers and\npost-gradu
 ate engineering students who are living\, studying or working\nin IMechE R
 egion 9 (Wessex)\, 10 (Western) or 12 (South Wales) and who\nare aged 35 o
 r under on 31st January 2016.\n\n2. Submissions could be\nbased on work th
 at is being carried out on an industrial engineering\nproject or for a fur
 ther qualification e.g. MSc\, PhD\, EngD or any other\nformal professional
  development programme completed in the recent past.\nUndergraduate (inclu
 ding MEng) project work is NOT eligible for\nconsideration.\n\n3.\nSubmiss
 ions can be based upon the author&rsquo\;s individual project\, or part\no
 f a group project providing the author&rsquo\;s contribution to the projec
 t is\nmade clear.\n\n4. An abstract of not more than 750 words in the main
 \nbody (excluding title\, contact details etc)\, summarising the author&rs
 quo\;s\nwork on an aerospace related research or development project\, sho
 uld be\nsubmitted to the Western Aerospace Centre by 31st January 2016.\nC
 andidates are encouraged to have entries reviewed prior to submission\nby 
 a suitable technical authority in your company or university\, to\nprovide
  assurance that entries are of sufficiently high standard.\n\n5. More than
  one entry per organisation is permitted.\n\n6.\nEach submission must be e
 ntirely the work of its author and be based on\ncurrent or recent activiti
 es in the field of Aerospace. Abstracts must\nnot have been previously sub
 mitted for any other prize competition\,\npublished in the proceedings of 
 professional bodies or publicly\npresented. [Abstracts or papers that have
  been presented internally\, as\nacademic assignments or reports of profes
 sional activity\, are considered\nnot to have been formally published or p
 resented.]\n\n7. The candidate\nabstracts from each organisation are to be
  submitted in soft copy to\nPauli Markkanen (Hon Secretary of the WAC) at 
 wacsec@imeche.org. They\nshould include contact details of the entrant\, d
 ate of birth\, and a\nstatement that the submission is entirely the work o
 f the author and has\nnot&nbsp\;previously been published elsewhere.\n\n8.
  All authors must obtain permission from their employers/tutors\, where ap
 propriate\, to publish any work\nthat is considered proprietary. Gaining s
 uch permission is entirely the responsibility of the candidate.\n\n9.\nThe
  adjudicating panel\, appointed by the WAC Committee\, will consist of\nse
 nior people drawn from both academic and industrial backgrounds.\n\n10. Up
  to 4 finalists will be invited to proceed to the presentation evening\, w
 here they will make an oral\npresentation of no more than 20 minutes durat
 ion\, plus 10 minutes for questions.\n\n11.\nThe panel will be looking for
  a well written and structured abstract\nand presentation\, also giving an
  appreciation of how the project relates\nto the wider organisation&rsquo\
 ;s business goals. The competition will test\nthe author&rsquo\;s technica
 l knowledge and communication skills.\n\n12. The\nadjudicating panel will 
 assess each presentation and the winner will be\nannounced at the Presenta
 tion Evening. A photograph and short biography\nof the Winner\, together w
 ith an abstract of their presentation\, will be\npublished in IMechE liter
 ature and on the website. Submission of an\nentry to\nthe competition is a
 ssumed as permission to publish associated photographs and abstracts on th
 e website.\n\n13.\nThe first prize of &pound\;500 will be awarded to the o
 verall winner for the\nbest combined written abstract and oral presentatio
 n. Additionally\,\nthere will be cash prizes for the runners-up.\n\n14. Th
 e finalists may\,\nsubject to confirmation\, have a chance to visit the Re
 d Arrows\, which\nincludes the Squadron presentation\, pilots&rsquo\; inbr
 ief for a training\nsortie\, watching the practice display at RAF Scampton
  (weather\npermitting)\, followed by the in-depth debriefing. The finalist
 s will\nenjoy lunch with the pilots\, and will have plenty of opportunitie
 s for\nphotographs\, rounding off with an Engineering tour of the hangar.\
