  system including the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM-Railway
 ) acting as a data network between trackside and on-board equipment\; and 
 ETCS\, a control system offering in-cab signalling and protection for the 
 train.\n&nbsp\;\nIn the last 10 years the UK &ndash\; along with many Euro
 pean neighbours &ndash\; has piloted the use of&nbsp\; the European Train 
 Control System (ETCS) Level 2 (L2). This technology is now being rolled ou
 t more widely\, driving both operational benefits and cost efficiencies.\n
 This presentation will give an overview of the development completed to da
 te\, the close collaboration with the client and different stakeholders to
  prove not only our ETCS capabilities and system performance\, but also de
 monstrate close collaboration with other parties. It will present the chal
 lenges faced and the lessons learnt from the ETCS National Integration Fac
 ility approach\, and what lies ahead as we progress towards the proposed d
 ate for this technology being implemented onto the Great Western.\n\n&nbsp
