His expe rtise is in safe close-proximity physical Human-Robot Interaction.\n\nDesc ription : 'Driverless cars' seem set to be in the vanguard of those signif icantly \;\nsafety critical and physically instantiated 'Robotics and Autonomous \;\nSystems" (RAS) that will be "let out in public"\, i.e.\ , generally \;\navailable for purchase as affordable commercial items. Some say that \;\novercoming the many technical\, legal and societal issues associated with \;\nwide acceptance of this technological advan ce will open the RAS \;\n'floodgates'\, by setting the mechanisms in p lace for many other RAS \;\ndevices to reach the marketplace. There ar e a number of reasons for this \;\nview\, covering the complete range from technology 'push'\, through \;\nsocietal 'pull' and encompassing many commercial motivations. However\, \;\nthere are significant chall enges\, opportunities and risks involved from \;\nboth technical and s ocietal directions.
