 llbeing has become ubiquitous. Healthcare is increasingly dependent on tec
 hnology\, and the safe\, effective advance of this technology depends on t
 he work of biomedical engineers. Biomedical engineering embraces devices f
 or neonatal care at one end of life to the independent living aids for old
 er people at the other. Such engineering developments are reducing costs a
 nd improving performance across the whole healthcare sector. Yet the prese
 nce and significance of biomedical engineering within NHS hospitals is oft
 en unclear\, inadequately recognised and poorly understood.\n&nbsp\;\n\nCo
