DESCRIPTION:Near You Event - Hybrid Modelling Approaches in Transport Pheno
mena: Applications in Energy & Aerospace Technologies\n\nEvent Type: Techn
 ical lecture\n\nIndustry Sector: Cross-sector\n\nSpeak Details: \n\nDescri
ption : \n\nThermal sciences and engineering is nowadays an established fi
eld in Brazil. Given that the first graduate engineering program in the co
untry only dates back to early 60&rsquo\;s\, this collaborative scientific
and technological development has been significantly accelerated by moder
n computer simulation tools. These include hybrid numerical-analytical met
hodologies that have been advanced for more than thirty years within the F
ederal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). In this talk\, a unified integ
ral transforms solution methodology\, known as the Generalized Integral Tr
ansform Technique (GITT)\, is reviewed in the computational-analytical han
dling of nonlinear diffusion and convection-diffusion problems\, aided by
symbolic-numerical computation platforms. The hybrid approach is here illu
strated for problems associated with nuclear energy\, space and aeronautic
al technologies\, such as the design of ultracentrifuges for uranium enric
hment\, the development of thermal protection systems for atmospheric re-e
ntry space vehicles\, and analysis of anti-icing thermal control systems f
or aeronautical sensors and structures. \n&nbsp\;\nSpeaker(s)&nbsp\;\nRena
to Machado Cotta studied in Brazil before obtaining his Ph.D. in Mechanica
l &amp\; Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University\, USA.
Author of 500 papers and 9 books Renato has held numerous positions on te
chnical boards such as President of Brazilian Association of Mechanical En
gineering and Sciences (ABCM) and of the National Commission of Nuclear En
ergy (CNEN)\, the regulatory body and science promoter of nuclear energy i
n Brazil. He is a Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (U
FRJ) and Senior Counselor for the Directorate General of Nuclear and Techn
ology Development (DGDNTM\, Brazilian Navy). He is a member of the Brazili
an Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).\n\n
