 entre\, University of Manchester\n\nEvent Type: Technical visit\n\nIndustr
y Sector: Aerospace materials and structures\n\nSpeak Details: Professor J
ames Baker is CEO of Graphene@Manchester\, GEIC is a part. James joined th
e University of Manchester after 25 years in Industry\, where most recentl
y he was Managing Director of the Advanced Technology Centres for BAE Syst
ems in the UK.\n\nDescription : The University of Manchester is the home o
f graphene &ndash\; it is where the one-atom-thick material was first isol
 ated.\n\nIf you've ever drawn with a pencil\, you've probably made graphen
e without even noticing. Now\, the world's thinnest material is set to rev
olutionise almost every part of daily life.\nGraphene and 2D materials hav
e the potential to revolutionise the world as we know it. The University o
f Manchester is the home of graphene\, today the University has an unrival
led ecosystem of academic expertise and industrial-scale capability\, curr
ently working in collaboration with dozens of global partners with many mo
re to come.\nGraphene has reached a tipping point and we are now seeing re
al-world benefits living up to the early excitement of just a few years ag
 o. Collaboration is key to realising graphene&rsquo\;s potential\, buildin
g a community of partners will accelerate the step change in graphene&rsqu
o\;s commercial prospects.\nThe IMechE Aerospace North West division have
organised a visit to the&nbsp\;Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEI
C)\, which helps companies develop and launch new technologies\, products
and processes that exploit the remarkable properties of graphene and other
2D materials.\nJoin us in Manchester\, where we will be touring the facil
ities at GEIC and hearing a talk from Professor James Baker\, CEO of Graph
 ene@Manchester\, of which GEIC is a part.\n\nTimings:\n14:30 - Introductio
