DESCRIPTION:Near You Event - An Introduction to Valves in the Water Industr
y\n\nEvent Type: Talk or debate\n\nIndustry Sector: Process Industries\n\n
Speak Details: Speakers: James Ingram\, Sam Callaghan\nChair \; Pamela R
 obinson\n\nDescription : To Register \, Please Click Here\n\n\n\nThis Even
t has been organised by the &ldquo\;Water and Wastewater Technical Activit
y Committee&rdquo\; of the Process Industries Division of the IMechE. It i
s hosted by the Process Industries Division and&nbsp\;promoted across the&
nbsp\;Process Industries Community\, including the&nbsp\;Centres in the No
rthwest&nbsp\;and Yorkshire Regions\, the Aberdeen Area\, the Northeast ar
ea..\nThis webinar will provide an overview of the valves used within the
water industry\, their applications\, sizing\, selection and testing. It i
s aimed at engineers\, designers\, and industry professionals seeking to b
uild or reinforce their knowledge of this essential component of water and
  wastewater systems.\n&nbsp\;Topics covered include:\n\n Valve Types: A
n overview of commonly used valves in water and wastewater applications\,
 including gate\, butterfly\, check\, pressure-reducing\, air valves\, and
more\, with discussion of their specific functions and use cases.\n Val
ve Categories: Valve functions including isolation\, regulation\, control\
, check\, pressure relief and air.\n Isolation valves: Wedge gate\, kni
 fe gate\, diaphragm\, pinch\, ball and butterfly.\n Regulation valves:
Eccentric plug\, plunger\, free discharge and needle.\n Control Valves:
Line pressure driven valves.\n Check valves: Swing disc check\, resili
 ent hinge disc\, recoil swing disc\, non-slam twin plate (wafer)\, non-sla
 m nozzle\, swing / lift\, ball duckbill\, foot and anti-pollution.\n Pr
essure relief: Spring operated poppet\, pinch type\, pallet type and burst
ing disc.\n Air valves: Large orifice\, dual orifice\, triple orifice\,
  \n Valve Operation: Insights into manual\, electric\, access issues\,
remote operation\, automation valve operating speed requirements\n Valv
e Selection: Guidance on choosing the right valve type for various scenari
os\n Valve Sizing: A look at the principles behind correctly sizing val
ves to ensure optimal system performance\, avoid cavitation\, and maintain
efficiency.\n Testing &amp\; Commissioning: Best practices for factory
acceptance testing (FAT)\, site testing\, installation checks\, and commi
ssioning procedures to ensure valve reliability and safety before operatio
nal handover.\n\n&nbsp\;\nBy the end of the session\, attendees will have
a clear understanding of the key considerations involved in selecting\, ap
plying\, and managing valves in water projects. This foundational knowledg
e supports better design decisions\, enhances collaboration with suppliers
and contractors\, and contributes to the successful delivery and long-ter
 m operation of water systems.\n&nbsp\;Webinar Plan&nbsp\;\n\n Introduct
ion of speakers by chair (5 mins)\n Presentation of Introduction to val
 ves in the water industry (40 mins)\n Q and A session (15 mins) &ndash\
